    1. A lovely companion novella to the MARDAN'S MARK series! I thoroughly enjoyed Healer's Curse; and though we didn't see the main characters from Mardan's Mark, I still loved being back in this fabulous fantasy world and meeting new characters!Eighteen-year-old, widowed Elilan is strong and kind, yet vulnerable and fighting her calling. Her grandfather tries to help her see sense especially with the trouble between the Twin Kingdoms escalating, and a wounded guard from the South in their care.I qu [...]

    2. This is a novella that goes along with Mardan's Mark, which I read several months ago and enjoyed. Rather than continuing that story, though, this takes us on a side-step into the life of Lady Elilan, a healer, and her experience dealing with her gift and a handsome patient. There are references to the characters and situation in Mardan's Mark, and quite a cast of characters for such a short story because it relates to the other book, but it still stands on its own and could be read before readi [...]

    3. I got this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. When I heard that this book would be released before the second book in the series, I was disappointed. But after reading it, I am glad that the author had taken the time to write it. At the end of Mardan's Mark, I had 2 thoughts. One was that it would have been better with a map of the realm included in the book and the other was that it could have included tidings of happenings at the palace in the absence of the Princesses and the Prince. The [...]

    4. A well told Little Tale Healer's Curse offers a glimpse into the people and culture of Northern Marst and, to a lesser extent, Southern Marst. While not as satisfying as Mardan's Mark (at its length, that would have been a feat, indeed), it is more smoothly told. And while I didn't love the ending (can you say "twee"?), I didn't hate it even as it fell, in the last paragraphs, from an insightful examination of faith, personal responsibility, and the ways in which grief can shape a person to a HE [...]

    5. About this book:“Lady Elilan heals people. Or does she? The fever is back, and people in Northern Marst are dying. After Elilan’s husband dies under her care, she abandons her divine gift of healing. What good is the “gift” if she can’t save those she loves? Her faith is put to the test when the king commands her to nurse a seriously wounded enemy soldier back to health. Will she rely on her knowledge of medicine or entrust her patient’s life—and her good name—to the One who gave [...]

    6. I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review:Have you ever been given a responsibility and not been able to carry it out? Have you ever felt like a failure for your inability to do something you believe you were called to? If so, you will be able to relate to Lady Elilan, the main character in Healer’s Curse.Elilan has been given the gift of healing. But when her gift fails to save the lives of her husband and mother-in-law, she stops using it altogether, fearful o [...]

    7. I had the honor and pleasure of reading an electronic advance copy of Healer’s Curse by Kathrese McKee. Healer’s Curse is a novella in her Mardan's Mark Series. The novella is a cute romantic fantasy set in northern half of the twin kingdoms, which rather reminds me of the divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah, transplanted to the south near the gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi river, all re-named. The novella’s back story appears to be events from the first novel in the series, and I sus [...]

    8. Healer's Curse is another thoroughly engaging story from author Kathrese McKee. I was entranced with her first novel, Mardan's Mark, and am eagerly waiting to read the second in the trilogy, Mardan's Anointed. In the meantime she wrote this companion novella, sharing a behind the scenes look at what's transpiring in the Twin Kingdoms while the royal heirs are missing (Mardan's Mark). Elilan is a sensitive, compassionate healer hiding her own hurt deep inside, and wounded Southern Soldier Raymon i [...]

    9. First of all, this book was amazing!! It was just what I expected to see after Mardan's Mark: another good, clean YA story I could lose myself in. It was great to meet characters in a new perspective and see their lives in more detail! McKee handles the sweeping romance with perfect skill and has me as a reader cheering on the characters as their relationship progresses in a natural manner. It's a splendid story that gives great insight into Mardan's Mark, while still retaining its own personal [...]

    10. I greatly enjoyed this novella! It expanded the world for me as a reader, and kept me hooked into the story. Lady Elilan has been through so much, and experiencing everything unfold from her viewpoint was marvelous. McKee creates characters with such incredible depth and complexity, that you can't help feeling for them within just a few pages, if not sooner. It was fascinating to learn more about the politics and to get some clarity on how healing works. And the lost love between the northern an [...]

    11. After reading Mardan's Mark, I wasn't sure how Healer's Curse could compete. The novella follows the events that are happening at home during the events of Book 1. I wasn't disappointed. I could see how this novella was setting things up for book 2, but it also managed to be it's own story. Elilan was strong like Srilani, but also vulnerable and I couldn't help but root for her. And the main guy? Well, he gave Aldan a run for his money. I'm really looking forward to seeing all these characters t [...]

    12. I have not read Mardan's Mark but wanted to read this novella from the series because I like to read stories about female healers when I find them. And no, I'm not a healer of any type. I enjoyed this novella and would read more by Ms. McKee. She is a skilled writer and I imagine that had I read Mardan's Mark, I may have enjoyed this story even more. However, my rating of four stars just goes to show you that Healer's Curse also makes a good stand-alone that is well worth the time.

    13. I loved Mardan's Mark and was eager to read the accompanying novella. So often companion books are not up to the level of the main titles. Not The Healer's Curse. It's tightly written and engaging. While it's not required reading for Mardan's Mark, the story goes deeper into the complex politics of the series. I love that Kathrese has a heroine who happens to be black as well as a diverse cast of secondary characters.

    14. A great read! The main character was very likable and the book was well written. I love Kathrese's style of writing. Just like with Mardan's Mark I found myself easily lost in her story world. I highly recommend this book for teens and adults.
