I received this galley at Book Expo America 2015, and was glad I did. Clayton Stone is a typical seventh-grader-he hates homework, plays sports and video games, and has a best friend. Then one day he discovers his grandmother is the head of the Special Service-a special undercover government organization. He takes up the family legacy and starts working for them, trying to chase down a gang of kidnappers. The writing and storyline reminded me of Stuart Gibbs-the same kind of humor and action. Oh, my. This is one fun ruckus of a tale. Told in first person present tense, it almost has the effect of a child narrator caught in his own computer game, but this is no game. The Secret Service, so secret that none of us would know about it, is in need of a child to be part of a mission. It just so happens that the child, Clayton Stone, has a mysterious connection to this organization because its head is none other than Well. I don't tell. Instead I suggest you read all about it.

The cliffhanger ending on page five hooked me. I liked Clayton and his grandmother and I looked forward to going on an adventure with them. Even the big guy in the serious black suit was intriguing—Clayton’s grandmother had him by the ear and his future didn’t look good. From there, the story launched into action with thirteen-year-old Clayton in the spotlight, and in the hot seat. This book was a lot of fun and I’m glad to see there’s a sequel already in the works.

This book has everything: kids, spies, gadgets, diner food, lacrosse action, girls (sort of), school, shopping, grandmas, intrigue, politics, kidnappings, car chases, and even some actual heart-pounding danger. And did I mention lacrosse? Check out this fun middle grade novel from a new Greensboro author!

Clayton Stone, raised by his grandmother, is a lacrosse playing, private school attending, twelve year old. He is recruited by the Special Service to be a decoy in a series of mall nappings. Told in first person, present tense, this story is fast paced, exciting, and fun. Although not at all plausible, the author does a good job of suspending disbelief and explaining how it all could happen. Just don't try this at home, kids.

A delightful detective story merged with a growing up and finding yourself tale. Clayton has just enough attitude to be real without getting snarky, and his exclamations keep the whole thing light-hearted without diminishing the suspense and action-thriller quality.

This book is about a teenage boy who is asked to help who was asked to help in a secret service. His Though he didn't really know much growing up, his family has been part of this secret service for years. He finds himself in dangerous situations, but realizes that he actually loves this job. This book, in my opinion, is okay. It hooked me in with a gripping paragraph or so, but when I go on to the second chapter, it feels as if I'm just calling words. My light bulb slowly dims.The cover art could be a bit more defined and bold. Another thing I noticed is that I found this book in the teen area/genre, but I couldn't get past the vocabulary. I received this book as a free giveaway thru . I initially thought my 11 year old daughter would enjoy this book, but it was geared more for boys. I read it and immediately thought "James Bond/Agent Cody Banks". The book was a little slow to start, but midway it captures its audience. I was happy to read more "action/adventure" in the storyline, for me, that's when it really started to become interesting.

First off---love the cover. Clayton Stone, At Your Service is a fun story with just enough suspense and secret agent gadgets to make any kid want to work for the Special Service. This book is a great example of a fast-paced novel that’s as much character driven as it is plot driven. All characters are believable and well-developed. My interest was held through to the end and I think kids aged 9 to 14 will love it, too.

The first in a series, this middle-grade spy novel is a breezy, fun read with likeable characters.

A fun kid spy book. I think boys will especially like it. The main character has a funny sense of humor which is endearing. We learn a little about Lacrosse and team spirit along with the mystery.
